    Question

I was watching the first matrix again yesterday because i really had nothing better to do. I noticed that theres alot of reflections in the movie, like in morpheous' glasses when hes holding his hands out with the pills to neo, or the reflection on the spoon in that "there is no spoon" scene. Theres alot more, but most of these shots are impossible without the camera being seen. What kind of Visual FX program would be used to do this? And how. Thanks.

    Cya!

I seem to remember Robert Rodriguez talking about doing that in the special features of 'Once Apon a Time in Mexico'

For the Matrix shot, the camera shoots the reverse angle (Morpheus' POV) and replace the original reflection with the reverse angle. 3D software is used to make the reflection countour the curve of the glasses, and a matte is used to confine the reverse angle to the appropriate area.

    Basically a computer-heavy version of a bluescreen.

You could do the effect fairly easily with Adobe After Effects. In fact, Adobe has a short tutorial on simulating breaking glass here:

    http://www.adobe.com/products/adobem...s/99wiqaae.pdf

It also mentions how to do a breaking mirror effect which should put you on the right path.

    Hope this helps.

Yep...Both of those shots have been put in in post-production...

If you look, the reflection in the glasses has one hand in each lens of the glasses... there is no way this would happen in physics - it was the directors' choice!
